In Florida, not so much, but up north it helps tremendously in the cooler months.

In Florida a windshield helps keep bugs out of your teeth.

I just bought one this week. It is a dusty mother out at the campground! I'm hoping it will cut down on my consumption of dirt. What the above posters metioned would just be an added bonus. I think it will make wifey happy to when we are out cruisin.

My neighbor out there said he has had his window on his cart for a couple of years, and it still looked in good shape. We also do alot of off roading out there.

Go with the fold down, it's too hot to have it up during the day, but at night, the headlights draw in the bugs something crazy, so I put it up at night. I'm sure it will come in handy on those cold winter mornings too!

I think it keeps the front uprights a little more rigid as well, keeping mirror vibrations down.

I have used mine without the windshield for a while and that worked pretty good with the exception of a few flying critters. I just recenly put a sport windshield on it and I think that is it more asthetically pleasing, and, it directs airflow just over our heads so the critters fly overhead now instead of directly at us.
