Re: Car audio ring terminals?
My cart's over at a friend's machine shop, getting the battery trays welded in. I took time yesterday to finish up my cables. I stripped about 5/8" from each end, tinned the wire, then half-filled the lug with molten 60/40 rosin-core solder. Reheated the wire to melt the solder, then pushed it into the lug up to the insulation and held it there 'til either the solder set or my fingertips started smoking, whichever came first.
I didn't use the fancy goo-filled heat shrink, just standard buck-a-foot 1/2". For the black cables, I wrapped a piece of white electrical tape so I'd have something to write on, and covered the lug end of the tape with an 1/8" or so of heat shrink. I tinned all of the lugs that are going to be attached to battery posts as well. I'm sure they're not as good as ScottyB's cables, but they're WAY better than the ones that came with the cart. Like most repetitive tasks, I got REALLY good at it by about the 16th cable. RLW |
