Well it looks like the only way to make this work from the key switch is to use a DC reducer since two voltages are required by using the Harley key. Anyone know a good deal on these?

Do you have a 12v for lights already? If so use that voltage for lights and use a 12v relay for the start then the switch has only 12v and the 36v is switched at the relay.

That was my thought but the relay would need to be powered (coil) by 36v or 48v

I use 12v relays all the time the coil is 12v and the contacts are dry with various load ratings. Same as on a car if you can find a harness I use Pam relays that have the pigtails built in so I don't have a separate base to deal with
