club car speed issue

Hey everyone, I was recommended to this site by Scott-B.
He claims you guys can help so let's see.

I purchased a very nice Club Car that was in dry storage for eight years.
Batteries were bad. I installed some "starting" batteries just to verify operation. Ran out nice ( like any other cart ) so I ordered "deep cycle"
Batteries. Now the cart only goes about 5 mph. I verified there is 48 volts minimun to the cart. Ser.# A9726-580730. I would like to make sure this unit will function before selling our Cushman gasser.
What does anyone think I need to look at?

Need to know more about your cart. . We just need a lot more info than that you put "starting" batteries and it ran out nice....by the way "deep cycle" batteries really won't work that good. Does it run worse after changing batteries? Where did you get the batteries to start with?

By starting batteries im assuming you mean cranking batteries. So you have four 12V deep cycles or 8 6 volts? Are you a potentiometer machine or controller? throw your multi meter on your batts and see what kind of voltage drop you have under load.

Yes I meant cranking batteries when I said "starting.
Just standard automotive batteries.
I was under impression these carts used "deep cycle" batteries.
What should I be using?
I get my batteries from a manufacturer here in wisconsin. Exide brand.
How do I tell if it is potentiometer machine or not?
I can test voltage drop over the weekend. I'm assuming you mean the 48 volts?

You need to get "golf cart" batteries.

Can you id the batteries you are using by make and model ?

Connect a meter to the pack and give the standing voltage of the pack at rest 12 hours after charging, then give the voltage reading as you drive under full acceleration.

This will establish type and condition of batteries.


Also Identify 36 ore 48v system by counting the number of contacts in the charge receptacle and identify if round or square shape.

I hooked my multi meter to the cart and drove it.
Yhe voltage dropped to 32volts as soon as i moved the cart.
I wil take "cart trader's" advice and get some "golf caart" batteries.
Will let you guys know what happens.
