Charging Batteries / OBC Issues
since we bought the cart several years ago, we have been using the charger with a by-pass on the charger since the OBC does not work. The batteries are only 1 year old and bubble after only charging for maybe 4 - 5 hours after the cart has been completely drained. The volts meter only shows 48 volts when the bubbling starts. It is a 48 volt system with the powerdrive. After charging it only runs for maybe 2 miles before it completely drains down again to nothing, most of the time leaving us stranded and having to push it back home. Any thoughts on what might be happening. Thank you !

Re: Charging Batteries / OBC Issues
This is not a good situation!
First off, you are never supposed to let the pack get down to below 50% SOC. If you do, battery life will be shortened. Second, bypassing the OBC is not good, as if you leave it unattended, the batteries will keep charging and will get overcharged. In your case it sounds like they are getting undercharged, which is just as bad... So how exactly do you charge the cart? Also, give us the serial number if you can. It's under the dash behind the GO pedal. |

Re: Charging Batteries / OBC Issues
As soon as I get home I will send you the serial number. We just keep on eye on it and connect a volts meter. We don't charge it over 48 volts. It dies on us before we know it so it's not like we intentionally let it get this low. This just recently started happening. The fuse on the charging plug on the cart blew, we replaced it and thats when it started happening.

Re: Charging Batteries / OBC Issues
This is why it's dying so quickly. During a charge cycle, a 48v pack can actually read above 60v. You should wait 12 hours after the charge cycle completes before you take your reading. If you look at the chart below, 100% SOC is 50.96 for a 48v pack. All of these readings are taken 12 hours after the charger has kicked off...

Re: Charging Batteries / OBC Issues
Really what you should do is replace the OBC. Charging it manually will harm the batteries and cost more money in the long run.

Re: Charging Batteries / OBC Issues
jake is correct you are under charging them .. THIS IS REALLY BAD !!!!
if you want a correct charge you should run charger till the volts reach 60+ about 16hrs shut off charger and let sit 12h to get a true reading the bubbling is normal just make sure you have 1/4" distilled water over the plates in the batteries read ---> http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...batteries.html you can eather replace the OBC or get a DPI charger |

Re: Charging Batteries / OBC Issues
Do you think the batteries are ruined now. How can I test the computer. I saw that there is a way to reset it. I don't know if that would work or if it is completely broken. What do you suggest ?
