starting problem with 1989 EZGO 2-cycle
Hi, all. New here, and with a problem I have a 1989 EZGO with 2 cycle Robins....sat all winter, started up fine this spring. A month later, it would not start. It tries but seems to fire only every 10 revolutions or so. I have checked the filters, drained the carb, replaced the spark plug. Comp seems ok, but may be low. Any ideas, or should I just tote it off to a shop?

Patience is something that these older carts will teach you. I would wait to take it to the shop. I too have an 89 and I have found that there is almost nothing that I can't fix myself. There is a ton if info on this forum that will help you. Hold off on the shop for now and give as much info about what it is doing as possible.

Re: starting problem with 1989 EZGO 2-cycle
check for a good solid spark. (if not then check the timing (.015)
pull the carb and clean the fuel jet VERY CLEAN(with a wire and carb cleaner) leave the air cleaner hose off the carb. put a new inline fuel filter on. THEN WHEN IT STARTS; if its back firing check the points settings (.015) |

Re: starting problem with 1989 EZGO 2-cycle
Well, I checked thru various ideas on the forum. My compression is 120 psi.....the igniter coil is grounded it still only fires about once every 15020 revolutions. Broken flywheel key, perhaps????

I had the exact same this this spring. Replaced all. Replaced the filter by the fuel pump, yet never took oflf line from fuel pump. tried everything you did, yet once Itook line off fuel pump to check, some minute particular must have gotten in, and shot out I guess...cuz right after that cart started instantly, and has been running all summer

Re: starting problem with 1989 EZGO 2-cycle
I did clean out the main jet, but I'll try blowing out the fuel lines as well. Thanks, everyone, for all the tips.....by the way...I am concerned that so little oil is being used from my oil tank. I think I had better block off the oil pump and mix my gas. Ratio of 1 oz oil to 1 gallon gas.....besides the injection port in the intake manifol;d what else should I block off?

THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED!!!!! Of all the stupid things....mud wasps built a nest in the exhaust pipe coming from the muffler. I cleaned out the pipe and the cart starts and runs fine. Thanks, everyone, for the tips.
