Do these slide over the boots? I have seen a U-Tube vid of someone repairing the torn CV boot on a car by taking a square of bike innertube and lacing zipties thru each end and covering the boot with it (wrapped around). I thought this might be a cheap way to give extra coverage.
Thanks

Have not had the time to put them on yet. They have not made much if any noise since I got some grease in the old boot. I hope to get to it over labor day! May have some questions when I get started. Do you have the replacement bearing sets if needed?

Had a chance to wrench on the cart yesterday evening. I had to take off quite a bit more than I hoped. (tierod and A-Frame? piece in addition to wheel) I am not sure what happened to the outside racing area in the second pic, thats how it was when I pulled it. The shaft looked okay otherwise. The last little part is what is causing me problems. There is a little retention ring that fits onto the spline. I think it needs to go on before you put the knuckle back on the spline. I guess I have deformed my to much as it does not sit well enough into the groove for me to slide the knuckle back on. Anyone know where I can find another ring? I tried O'rielys, only auto part store in our town and they had no idea. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you take a picture of the ring you're talking about?

get into a small room and try and reshape the ring you have back to normal. Needs to be in a space when you send it flying from the pliers that you'll be able to find it again.. That outer joint doesn't look too good. Make sure that hot spot doesn't line up with wear on the inside. Possibly an early repair job?

The hot spot is normal. All the new ones look like that. Maybe from where they heat it up to set the bearings or something?
