1980 - No/Weak intermittent Spark
Hey guys,
Finally getting around to working on the cart again to find out why it isn't working. I am getting 0 very intermittent spark. I have traced power everywhere and it all seems fine going to the coil and I can't wrap my head around what I am missing. I am going to grind down all the ground points to see if that is it. I have tried new spark plugs even when grounding them out spark is tiny/non existent. I have tried new coils and same issue. Since it is an 80 and 2pg I can't HEI conversion it since it only has the 1 wire into the flywheel. Any ideas from some experts I am at a loss? |

Re: 1980 - No/Weak intermittent Spark
So not sure what happened but one of the timing screws was chiseled at some point and incredibly bent. We replaced that with a new screw and now are getting consistent spark. She still won’t fire though. Going to check the gap on the points once I get a tool any tricks to resetting the timing I am hoping that is why it isn’t firing up as you can at least hear little blasts coming from engine but not enough to create combustion.
Engine compression is sitting just over 90 still which should be enough to get it going. |
