Re: 98 TXT knock when starting/stopping
Yours does not look like a 1998 TXT. Here is what the manual shows a 98 looks like
You sure of the model ? Looks like a later model. The governor spring on the 98 was thick and much different as shown in picture I included. Your cart have the three bolt steering column or four bolt ? |

Re: 98 TXT knock when starting/stopping
Like trig said, it’s hard to tell by the video. But to me it sounds like the clutch is rattling. Since you said it goes away at higher RPM I’d suspect a flyweight is loose or broken in the clutch.
Do always keep an ear out for a knocking when it’s actually running though. I have absolutely no idea WHY it happens, but for some reason it appears to be very common for the bolts in the connecting rod caps to work themselves loose. You’ll hear it start knocking out of nowhere. It starts light and gets worse very quickly. As long as you catch it early, it’s no big deal. Just re-torque them and you’re good. Let it go and they fall out and break the rod when it binds. I’ve had several of these motors I’ve gone in to rebuild and removed the rod bolts with my fingers... |

Here’s a pic of the manufacturer number and steering column area.
How do I go about checking the flywheel and clutch? |

Re: 98 TXT knock when starting/stopping
Well I couldn’t see the video but definitely hear something. What I don’t understand is I think I see 4 bolt steering but a 98 serial? Some one has changed something..

Here is a picture of my 1999 rear axle. Not like his. I think he has at least a 2002. Wonder if his rack and pinion is bolted to top of front axle ? Also does his have twin shift cables. The picture looked like the newer style Please show us your engine and maybe we can help you get things adjusted right. |

Re: 98 TXT knock when starting/stopping
It definitely has the 4 bolt steering so frame is 2001 or newer. The rest I just can’t tell

Re: 98 TXT knock when starting/stopping
Yes, this helps. You have a later model than a 1998. Single shift cable which is a big plus. It has the pre-mci engine is also is a plus. I would say this cart is a 2002 or 2003. I have a 2003 with the pre mci engine and single shift cable like yours.
I love these carts. In my opinion this is the best engine ezgo every made. These engines rock. Maybe take another video with sound and picture so we can see if we hear anything. You are probably good if you say you don't hear anything wide open. Could be the clutch like CP241 said. |

Re: 98 TXT knock when starting/stopping
Ok cool. So weird though...why would it have a code on it for a 98. Is there somewhere on the frame that has number info.
Should I remove the governor? And I’ll get another video later when I take my little one out...does in need to show the engine? Or just more for sound? |
