Got a new radio and it's not working - Please help
I just got a JVC radio and hooked everything up on my 36v EZ Go according to plan however it does not work. All the light come on but it is unresponsive to anything. The power button doesn't work .... nothing. It lights up and that is all.
We hooked the red wire to positive, black to negative, and yellow (ignition) to positive. We;ve tried so many different things nothing seems to work. As I said, the radio lights up and that is all. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks, ~dig |

Re: Got a new radio and it's not working - Please help
It is brand new, straight from the box. I did not check the wires at the radio but will do so.
Should I get a seperate battery. I wired the red to the positive, first battery in the series, then the ground to negative, same battery, then the yellow (ignition) to the positive of the second battery in the series. I would think that would give it it's 12v. I have a 36v so I would think 2 batteries would be 12v. I just think it's odd how it lights up but won't respond to anything. No sound, nothing. thanks for the help. ~dig |

on the short, I will suggest that you go buy a voltmeter. It sounds like you are not wiring it up correctly. And I understand that you will probably not use the voltmeter again after this project, but you have to ask yourself, which is cheaper; a voltmeter or another new radio? Just remember not to let the smoke out of the radio.

Bench test the radio with speakers before you install in the cart to assure the radio works before trying to trouble shoot the cart.
If it works on the bench, it will work in the cart. Test the voltage to the radio with a meter. Make sure that the radio chassis is not grounded to the frame in any way, confirm this with a meter or continuity tester. Make sure speaker wires are not grounded to the frame. Make sure the antenna is not grounded to the frame. |

Look @ your second post you answered your own question. You only have 6 volts to the radio.

Twist the red and yellow wires together and wire to the positive on the first out of the 2 batteries and black to the negative on the second battery.
You gonna have to use the power switch on the radio to turn it on and off...if you want you can wire a toggle for the ignition wire only and use that as your "ignition", also works with your other 12v accessories to control them all of with a single toggle. -thats what i did, bf went 48v... |

I am no good at this stuff and I'm definately not trying to be a smart *** but I was under the assumption if I pulled positive from two different batteries I was bringing in 12v. However the way I'm reading all these posts, I can pull positive for both the red and yellow from the same battery and negative from the next battery in the series. Is this correct? thanks everyone. ~dig |
