Which speed code or new motor
Finally got my cart running. Had to get the stock Curtis controller rebuilt along with all new brakes and drums. Installed the 6" lift kit, new 12" wheels and new 23" tires. Brand new batteries and new stock solenoid.
Painting this weekend (just a rattle can job) and starting some cosmetic work- seat covers, dash. Need to get the speed up. Replaced the speed sensor and installed a high speed magnet. I'm not sure what speed code currently running or exact speed but certainly not anywhere near 20+mph. Brakes are not dragging. Wondering if just going with a Plum Quick bandit vs getting the speed code 4 is the solution. I thought the high speed magnet is an alternative to speed code 4. I have zero history with the motor, kind of glad it runs at this point. |

Alltrax XCT400IQ controller will net you 25mph on this cart with the stock motor and 23s.

Re: Which speed code or new motor
With the high speed magnet the speed codes will have no effect. Those are pretty tall tires for your set up. You would get close to 20 mph with stock tires. You are only getting so much torque and the tall tires take some of it away.
What you need is more power. You can get it with a higher amp controller also a stronger motor will get you more power. |

Re: Which speed code or new motor
With speed code 3 (14MPH) should get you 21 MPH with high speed magnet. Theoretical with speed code 4 (19.6 MPH) and speed magnet you should get 29.4 MPH. But you never get that fast because the motor doesn't have enough HP.

Re: Which speed code or new motor
The speed magnet does absolutely nothing for the power of the motor. It sends a modified signal to the controller to keep the motor braking from turning on and limiting your top speed. That's essentially the same as a speed code. Different speed settings simply change the governed RPM to a higher speed. 11MPH is slower than you should be going even with a stock magnet in the motor. A high speed magnet will have zero affect on this car until you find the problem that's causing your slow speeds.

I'll get a GPS reading shortly so I know where to start looking. The cart was non running when I got it, so I have no comparison. But THANKS TO BUGGIESGONEWILD I now have it running, and stopping. I'll I am looking for is getting in the 21-25mph range for a Low Speed Vehicle, so do not think a new controller is what's needed, but will certainly keep that in mind. |

Re: Which speed code or new motor
Gotcha. There are plenty of good motors and controllers out there to give you the results you want.

Re: Which speed code or new motor
I would ditch that rebuilt stock controller and get an Alltrax before replacing the motor.
