Input shaft
Anyone know how to remove the input shaft? I got the snap ring off but can't figure it out. Thanks

Re: Input shaft
i just did mine last week. i believe you need to pull the rear completely apart because the inside bearing on the input shaft will not clear the ring gear. to do this you will need to remove the two freeze plugs just below the input shaft in the pic and on the other side. the good thing is that with some snap ring pliers the whole comes apart pretty easy.

Re: Input shaft
NO do not pull apart. There is enough clearance. Put vise grips on the old shaft if it is worn and bad. using a large flat screwdriver, pry tie shaft out. Some are very tight and can be difficult. Make sure the area from the snap ring and out are clean and that there are no burrs. Just a .005" burr will slow you up. Only pull the case apart if you are going to replace the intermediate shaft. Drive Pinion, axles, etc can be change without pulling apart.

Re: Input shaft
bonduranth - followed your suggestions and real happy with the results. Everything came out real easy except the plastic cover - tore up the rubber trying to get a screw driver in there to pry out.
Have any ideas on what that part is called, because the manual doesn't explode the transaxle view? |

Re: Input shaft
Part # is 24261-G1, spline bumper. It makes sure there is no play between the coupler and the shaft. Cut a hose that is the same length as what came out, and install. These harden up and come apart on their own.
