If every 12V battery was charged to the same voltage and current they would be balanced. Some automotive chargers kick off at fixed voltage instead of waiting for the current to drop. This is where the imbalance in the batteries comes from with automotive chargers. A smart charger for deep cycle batteries would be the best if this were to be a long term way of charging. Of course you would have to wait for the charger to properly finish each battery before you could drive the cart, this could be quite annoying. If the cart was driven without charging all batteries first you would get a serious imbalance.
