Default Re: Intermittent failure of pedal to start

Where is the best place to attach a VOM to do a road test for seeing what happens when cart stops? I put it across the small terminals on solenoid and voltage dropped to 0 when cart stopped working. Not sure if this means problem with controller or solenoid. Any comments are appreciated.

Since you are loosing the voltage that energizes the solenoid, the solenoid is probably okay.

Connect your DVM between B- terminal on the controller (or battery pack) and the yellow wire on the solenoid.

If the voltage goes away when the cart misbehaves, monitor the voltage on the small wire coming out of the cart's charge receptacle.

The voltage did not go away when cart misbehaved. What next?

That narrows it down to either the pedal microswitch or the controller.

Monitor the voltage between B- and J4 Pin-1.

If it goes away, it's the pedal microswitch or the wiring connecting it to the controller.
(There in an in-line connector that causes troubles occasionally)

If it stays, it's the controller.

Question Re: Intermittent failure of pedal to start

Thanks JohnnieB. I'll look at that. The microswitch was the first thing I replaced and didn't fix the problem. Now need the check the wiring. Also in running VOM tests, found that the solenoid shows welded shut. Do not see how that would cause the intermittent failure but will replace it anyway. Anyone know if that could be the problem?

Update on problem: After changing out the solenoid the cart seems to run perfectly. I will continue to monitor the progress. Hope this might help anybody experiencing an intermittent stop and go problem.
