Reducer or Aux battery??
Hi All;
I've got a 2008 E-Z-Go RXV. I've decided to add a light kit. My question to the veterans is should I go with a voltage reducer, or just an aux battery? For the time being, I'm not adding a stereo, but I may in the future. Also, a follow up question: If I do go with a reducer, what kind of Amperage/Wattage should I be looking for? Thanks for any input! HJ |

Another question
If I go with aux battery, is there a way to have it charge from the pack, or will I have to hook a battery charger? If that's the case, reducer it is! |

Re: Reducer or Aux battery??
Personally, I went with the voltage reducer.....in the case of what size, bigger is better, so if you add things in the future, the reducer will do the job. I went a 30 amp.
your other question.....if you go with an aux battery......yes you will have to hook it up to a 12v charger. |

Re: Reducer or Aux battery??
I went with the auxiliary 12 volt gel battery made for wheelchair scooters....for one it was cheaper for me right now...my 35ah batt cost me about $85 which is alot cheaper then then the 30 amp reducer that's necessary for all the accessories. good luck with what ever you choose...If you pick a reducer, don't go cheap. You get what you pay for!

Re: Reducer or Aux battery??
I went with aux battery . I rather drive home with no light cause something was left on then have a cart to dead to move. 12 volt sealed rv/marine battery with battery tender works well. tender sits on top of my charger and placed the plug connector right above my regular charger on the cart. see pics below ...

Re: Reducer or Aux battery??
I would go with a reducer. The lights put a very minimal load on the main battery and you save the trouble of keeping an aux battery charged and maintained. You could run with the lights on all the time and not notice much change in the range.

Re: Reducer or Aux battery??
I know you you said you don't have a stereo, but may add one. One advantage to an aux battery is it's much easier to handle the memory wire, which keeps programmed radio stations and the clock power. Beyond that, I like the convenience of a reducer.

Re: Reducer or Aux battery??
Having an aux battery to charge is somewhat of a PITA. I have a stereo, amp and lights and it is nice to not have to worry about the kids playing the stereo all afternoon and killing the main battery pack leaving us stranded. If you use a battery tender or something similar that is easy to just plug in, charging the aux battery isn't that bad.
