With regular oil it is change every year. How long can you go w/o changing oil with synthetic oil?

According to the maintenance manual I have, it says every 5 years

According to plumb quick they recommend the 30wt factory as the little increase in speed and use isn't enough to justify the heavier oil. He said it is much harder on the motor and can shorten the life of it.
I'm just quoting what I was told by them, not starting a debate, lol

I was lead to believe from other posts that 30wt motor oil was equivavent to 70-90wt gear oil.

Most of us use 90 gear oil. Some manufacturers recommend 30 weight to get more range. I don't think the added range amounts to a pimple on an ants behind.
