Battery Acid on Garage Floor ... AGAIN !!!
So I added distilled water to all 6 batteries and topped them off (maybe a little too much). I put on the charger overnight and the next morning there was battery acid water all over the floor.
I thought I learned my lesson. A few weeks later I topped off with water outside of the garage and wiped down the battery tops. After running the charger overnight, I walked into the same problem of battery acid water on the floor and now it took off a small layer of concrete. Now I'll probably loose the deposit. Why is it doing this? I've heard the batteries gurgle during charger, maybe they are bubbling up and overflowing? Thanks... |

Roady, I think you might need to clarify what you meant by filling them the rest of the way. By rest of the way do you mean about 1/4" above the plates?

How old are these batteries? Even properly filled oldies can over boil during charging...

Re: Battery Acid on Garage Floor ... AGAIN !!!
I bought the cart used about a month ago. The guy said the batteries were replaced in 2006. I'm not sure I believe him. I looked all around the battery case and couldn't find a date stamped. I read on another thread to check the post, which I will do tonight. I noticed that the charger now stops at around 15 (volts?) on the charger. It used to go down to zero.

When you plug the charger in - how long does it run?

Re: Battery Acid on Garage Floor ... AGAIN !!!
I fill golf cart batteries to 1/4" above the plates. More than that gets splashed into the vents over bumps and leaks out. That level stays in the batteries, more splahes out.
The 1/4' ABOVE PLATES won't boil over when charging... |

Fill them to just above the plates before charging, about a 1/4 inch is fine. Then, after fully charging fill them the rest of the way....to the manufacturers full level. Does that help? |
