Re: Lead acid battery conversion
Lithium conversion is expensive. I would not recommend it as a way to save $$ even in the long run. However, the performance and weight savings is great. IMO there are no really good conversions out there yet though. All are some sort of compromise. I went with Leaf cells but they are not all that available since Nissan won't sell them. The ones that are available are salvaged from crashed Leafs.

Re: Lead acid battery conversion
Volt I know the lithium conversion is expensive. My comment was in response to costing that much to swap from 4 12s to 6 8s.

Re: Lead acid battery conversion
Lithium conversion is at least 2X more than converting from 4x12 to 6x8! Closer to 3X by the time you get a BMS.

Re: Lead acid battery conversion
For 6 Trojan 160's and a new battery tray I priced it at $1260. My local shop wants $700 for labor, which is where I came up with the 2k. Way too much for labor, so this is going to be a DIY project. I'm pretty handy, so doing some research to figure out how to do lithium myself. I don't like to waste money, so all those 4k+ drop in packs are out, but 2-3k is not out of the question. I found 16 CALB 100Ah batteries for about $2400. The company that makes them is only about 45 minutes from my house, so I may check them out. Just started looking at BMS options and they look like $700+ and most importantly I do not understand how to correctly set them up yet (seems like a lot more reading). I have not tested my charger yet, but I think that is the root cause of all my 12v's dying at the same time, so a new charger is most likely in my future anyway.

Re: Lead acid battery conversion
$700 for labor? Ouch. Tray that I have seen bolts in and I don't think you have to remove the body to do it but would be much easier. Around $125-150 from ezgo.

Re: Lead acid battery conversion
Do it yourself! Replacing the battery tray is relatively easy and certainly not worth that much labor cost. Lithium conversion will run you more than 2X your cost anyway - and if you are not into do it yourself, it will be more.

Re: Lead acid battery conversion
Could you tell me the name of the charger that you are using for your volt batteries? I’m also installing volt batteries on my 2005 CC Ds.

Re: Lead acid battery conversion
I have to ask, is there a reason why I never see Smart Battery mentioned on the site? Yes, they are expensive but they seem to be a direct swap for existing batteries and just a different charger, which I believe they include.
