1995 Club Car DS Vglide solenoid failures 36V
I have a 95 Club Car 36v Vglide DS cart. I had the solenoid go bad and I replaced the defective one. The 1st time the pedal was pressed, the solenoid stuck in open position and the cart stayed on regardless of key switch position. After removal, solenoid had continuity between terminals when it should have been closed. I returned that solenoid and ordered a new solenoid. After 3 weeks of use, the same thing happened to the replacement solenoid. Is there something else that could have the potential to cause an issue with the solenoid? Or is this just bad parts from the manufacturer?

Unless something is wrong with the activation circuit, I think you got a bad solenoid. |

A couple other things: We are talking about a resistor cart with a V-glide? When you are using the term "open" you mean "activated?"

Yes activated. Key no longer turns off cart, and it wants to creep forward at a stop.
Resistor coils is correct. Last edited by djk205; 06-12-2018 at 01:50 PM.. Reason: completed response. |

Activated is technically closed. If the solenoid was open the current could not cross the mains. Are you sure you are using a solenoid rated for the correct voltage and continuous duty? Purchase errors can cause the result you describe

I certainly thought I ordered it correctly. I will make sure verify ordering on the next one I purchase.
Here is what was ordered: This item:Club Car DS 36 Volt, 4 Terminal Solenoid 1976-1998 Electric Golf Carts |

Part number 101975901 is the solenoid you need. The 8016 (or 8016 clone) like you ordered is probably hurting you for two reasons. Reason 1 is because you probably ordered an aftermarket one. Reason 2 is because the 8016 is designed for multi-solenoid cars only. If you received a factory one you'd see that written across the side of the solenoid.

Re: 1995 Club Car DS Vglide solenoid failures 36V
I believe there is something else wrong causing the solenoid to “weld” the contacts closed. I own a 94 DS series cart which is what I I believe we are dealing with here. The most likely culprit to me would be the pre-charge resistor being bad. It is responsible for pre-charging the capacitors in the controller which prevents what is called a “surge” or “inrush” current from happening, which on an instantaneous basis can far exceed the ratings of the solenoid contacts. Over time, the arcing happening at the contacts will weld them closed. Something to check at a minimum. Hope this helps.
