Question Club Car DS replaced 3 forward reverse switches why?

have a lifted Club Car DS I bought used less than two years old. Will not go into forward or reverse. Forward Reverse switch has been replace 3 times and probably need to replace again, any suggestions on what the problem is. Tired of replacing switches. Should I replace all the cables and would 1 gauge be better than 4 and would it give me more speed. Cart tops out at about 30mph now. Have a 36 volt 3.0 horsepower motor.

What kind of controller do you have?? Sounds like you need a beefed up F&R switch

With it being less than 2 years old, I figured you have a Sepex and that would mean a rocker switch, but now I tend to think you have an older cart since you said 36v and if you are running the speeds you claim, a normal FNR will never take the amperage you are pushing thru it and you are burning them up.

Bigger cables will just make your delivery more efficient, not make it run faster.

How are switches failing?

If the contacts have burn spots, make sure the limit micro-switch is working and cutting the current off before the switch contacts engage/dissengage.

If it is melting, You may want to consider using a Reversing Contactor as they have a much lower contact resistance.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my message any suggestions on speeding my cart up This was my first post. You obviously have more knowledge than I do. I would say my carts average top speed is 28 with the wind I have been over 31. I live at the beach so the land is basically flat. Again thanks for your time,

What you are running now is almost unheard of for a 36v cart. Here is a Speed Calculator you can play with. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/speed-calculator.php
