Default 2 bolts won’t tighten down after differential service

I serviced my 2005 EZ-GO differential today and 2 of the bolts won’t tighten down. I torqued the other bolts to 17 lbs. I was wondering what caused it, what problems it might cause and what I might do to fix it? Thanks

You are talking about the pan bolts?

Won’t tighten like just keep turning?
If so probably striped threads in housing.
Easy fix with a heli coil or thread insert 😊

What he said! Hopefully that will get you going. Which ever you go with, DO NOT over torque them.

What will happen if you don't "fix" it? It'll leak eventually. It does not have uniform pressure all around now. It might not leak at first, but eventually it will.

Thanks for the info. I will address them with one of the suggested fixes.

Were it mine, I'd just put three or so thin copper wires in the aluminum housing and tighten the bolt. I've done this on a lot of non-structural bolts.

Yurtle that was an old school repair from when I was still working as a mechanic on a process line back in the the day before heli coil , tread inserts were common.
Surprised anyone remembers those tricks the trades from those days. 👍

Works on wood as well. Using wood, not copper. I keep an old coffee can full of all types of wood.

Funny you should say that.
I keep a pack of tooth picks on camper for when cabinet hinge screws strip.
Insert tooth pick in hole then tighten wood screw.
Wood putty also works since you can’t go with larger screw due to hole in hinge.
Dang particle board 😊
