Default 1984 36V Marathon

I have looked everywhere online and even on this forum. But, I cannot find a wiring diagram for my exact motor and cart. I recently bought the cart at an auction and know nothing about electric carts. Another thing is my cart only goes 5-7mph, while the motor says 13mph. I'm going to replace all the cables on the cart and want to make sure the previous owner didn't screw anything else up (they had 36v going to the radio) and maybe put wires in the wrong location. The motor is a 5BC48JB700A. TIA

Greetings!

An 84 will be a resistor controlled cart (from factory). There are several diagrams that will get you started in the stickies. Pick one and wire the cart to it. It will work.

A picture of the battery bay and the motor will help along with pictures of the wiring at the accelerator board and FNR.

The slow speed could be batteries, resistor coil condition, wiring, accelerator board, MS connections, cable connections, really any number of things.

Remember if wiring is original to cart it is 35 years old and may... like me (old man) need some extra attention!

Good luck.

I just don't know which is F/R on the motor. I picked up 2ga wires. Is that too much for this old cart? All wires are original except the battery cables (which i'm replacing too) I looked at the resistors and they look fine to my untrained eye. I also noticed the other night that the resistor was glowing red when driving around. Is that normal? Again, I've done a lot of research on this cart before coming here to ask a question which may be deemed "stupid". I'm gonna look at all the connections tonight while replacing cables.

Since you said you already picked them up, 2 AWG cables won't hurt anything. To quote JohnnyB, "overkill is underrated", which I "almost" always follow, unless duty cycle allows me to cheat.

Good, I don't think they're welding cables (which I wanted). In hindsight, I should've checked the local weld supply store instead of an automotive supply store.

Well, now I may be in some serious trouble here. I went to take a nut off on the motor and the nut and part of the stud broke off. I'm gonna have to call the local electric motor guy and see if he can do anything or if I should just scrap the whole project and find another cart.

Did the stud spin or just break off?

Always soak those down with PB Blaster or something similar. Then use TWO wrenches one above and one below the wire to remove the nut.

If it spun inside it will have to be removed and fixed. (Probably not a bad idea at this point)

I used two wrenches. It broke above the lower nut on the stud. I'm glad that it's fixable.

Is it something a common man like myself be able to fix?

Do you have a photo of the cart?

If it's something you want yes it's worth fixing. You will have to decide that.
