Re: Cycling a pwII charger
OK, I've been the source of the confusion. Literally decades, I've called an "hourly" timer a "daily" timer, as it repeats its cycle every day. I've called, what's apparently called a "day" timer a "weekly" timer, as it repeats its cycle every week. Oops.
Dunno if there's industry standard terminology for lighting and HVAC, but I've prolly been calling them the wrong thing. |

Re: Cycling a pwII charger
Can it do just once or twice a week, or does it do the same thing every day?

Re: Cycling a pwII charger
OK, I'm going to kill this once and for all...
If you spent $400 - $800 for a battery pack, the best thing you can do for it is to get a ScottyB DPI. I was trying to help a monetarily challenged dude in these tough times. It ain't too hard, and there are numerous ways of killing the PW sensor wire. Let's go to sleep now. |

Re: Cycling a pwII charger
I guess I don't have the "power" to kill stuff, but if you look at post #11, that's what I'd do.

Re: Cycling a pwII charger
No fair RIB! You took away the question that started my "rant". I was working on my garage door last night, and I kept thinkin' about stuff I shoulda said, so I kept running back and "ranting", as it was "more fun" than working on my garage door.
Actually, I just wanted to make sure the OP, who wanted to use an external timer, didn't waste his time/money on an internal relay, if his timer was "day stupid". My original thread was here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...tteries-3.html Guess it wasn't as long ago as I thought. Gettin' old. |

Let's chalk (old school) it up to my old age!
Hey, I'm over half-way done! Gotta go finish my garage door. |

Re: Cycling a pwII charger
Just about anything that will periodically open and close the battery sense circuit will work.
However, I do caution anyone using this method to use a weekly timer rather than a daily one. The Ferroresonant Transformer type chargers we are talking about, shut off automatically at a predetermined voltage that is fairly benign, so overcharging with them isn't a major issue during normal operation, but hitting the batteries with a recharge daily might be bordering on overcharging. More importantly, the batteries will be gassing a lot, so the danger of exposed plates exists. A daily charge cycle might expose the plates in just a couple of weeks, while a weekly charge cycle might take two or three months. However you do it, you need to determine how fast your particular battery pack uses water before storing them without monitoring the the water level for a prolonged length of time. |
