If it's out of an '85 Club Car, then the gear orientation is designed to spin counter-clockwise, and will look exactly like the rear end pictured at the top of this thread. I believe the 1984-1996 axles are made by Kawasaki.

I have read a few threads where the 84-86.5 were made by Fuji, gas or electric. Namely one where someone destroyed one by stripping out a few gears with a 23hp Vanguard and tried to rebuild it but couldn't because the parts were not available. Another stated they we replaced under warranty with the Kawasaki models. the Fuji's are weak and not made for anything more than stock power.

My buddy in Massillon, OH has one for sale out of a 1987 Club Car. He's had it for a couple of years but when we took it out of the cart it wouldn't shift into reverse. Since it was removed from the cart he has freed the shifter and it seems to shift into all gears now, but he hasn't put it back into a cart to test it for sure. I think just fear of the unknown has caused many axle-seekers to pass on it. If you are familiar with rebuilding axles maybe it won't faze you.
