Can't get over 1600 RPMs
A little while back my '96 DS decided not to start. After troubleshooting it got a new coil. Now it starts with some difficulty and runs decent off idle up to about 1650 RMS. Any more throttle and it slows down. Before the no start it ran fine.
So far: Coil mentioned above. Limiter disconnected because I haven't gotten around to reconnecting the ground. New plug. Low time carb. Fuel pump checked. Air gap set (what a PITA). Compression 60 psi. Any suggestions to what I am missing? Thanks. Ross |

60 lbs compression!
Sounds like it needs a rebuild! Compression is down over a 100lbs, That would make it hard to start. Sound like a air/fuel issue |

Re: Can't get over 1600 RPMs
I'll double check, but the service manual I down loaded here had it in range. I did think it was a low spec for compression..

60 psi doesn't sound right, and I'm a sparky cart guy.

Re: Can't get over 1600 RPMs
While I agree completely 60 psi is pretty low, the service manual I have does state 57 psi minimum. I wasted some time trying to copy and paste it here, my computer skillz failed me.
I believe I downloaded this manual here. It is a Kawasaki service manual covering FE 120-FE 400. I have to believe any typos would have been caught by 2000 when it was printed. Also the cart ran strong until the coil failure. Ross |

What about the vale lash. Are they too tight keeping them partly open?

What kind of coil did you get? Sure it's the correct coil for your year?

Re: Can't get over 1600 RPMs
I have not checked the valve lash, but will over the weekend. It would not have changed since the coil replacement though.
As I recall the coil came in a Kawasaki labeled box from the vendor I used. Ill double check. Saved the old parts in the new box. Ross |

Re: Can't get over 1600 RPMs
Thanks for the link. It mentions ACR (automatic compression release). I'll check lash as soon as I get a chance as I said. Can any one offer more about ACR? Can it fail suddenly causing low compression?
