Does a lift and bigger tires cause a rougher take off from a stop?
I can't find it, but I recall that bigger tires can make starting off a little jerky. Is that true? And that a different belt would possibly help?
I put a new belts and a bigger lift with 23" tires on my cart. It seems like you give it the gas a little and then it grabs and then starts off. Will a different belt help this, or am I remembering incorrectly? |

I put a new belt on mine “just because “ and it was jerkey so I put the old one back on.

New belts can be jerky at first. Give them an hour or more to wear the new off before you judge them.

I find that doing doughnuts in the dirt for about an hour smooths out that new belt jerky take-off

Mismatched clutches can also cause a jerky takeoff, especially on lifted carts with larger tires. I think this problem goes largely unnoticed for stock-height carts with 18" tires.
Club Car gas carts have two different drive/driven clutch combinations: One set made from 1984-1987, and the other set made from 1988-up (with a rotation change in 1997). Many cart suppliers appear to be selling the older, steel-sheaved driven clutches (used from 1984-1987) as a direct replacement for newer (1988+) carts. Problem is that the older clutch setup pushes the belt out away from the motor and transaxle about 1/2" further then the newer setup.
