1997 & 1998 CC DS cart upgrades
These are two carts we use at work.
Brief history on them. They were purchased used at a dealer in Salt Lake City area several years ago. Each year they have had fuel stable put in them and they are stored inside a shed in the winter. They have had the usual yearly maintenance and tune ups by the University shops (one that does maintenance on cars and the other small engines/yard equipment). The University likes to keep business in house to keep the $ in house (which isn't always the best answer). The dealer is an hour away and the carts have to be trailered there, local dealers refuse to work on them and the shops at the local golf courses only work on their own carts. The carts have never ran right after getting them back from the University service places. They backfire, get the smell of gas after stopping, they surge once in a while while driving. The white one sounds like it will also need a bearing in the rear diff. I believe the tire that is worn on the white one was rotated off of the front. I am not sure how many hours are on either engine but they don't use a lot of oil and they don't smoke. So with all of that, I am going to do the work on them this year to get them right. I have plenty of experience in engine and fab work from V8's to weed eaters, Jeep adapters, motorcycles both dirt and street etc. I have attached pics of both carts so that you could see what condition they are in and what extras they have on them. The white one is the 97 and the blue is the 98. I am not wanting a high speed cart and they can't be really loud. We drive them through crowds and in events. I would like a little more torque for climbing hills. We have several large hills to traverse. They have 23" tires and 12" rims. I am planning on pressure washing all the dirt off first. Both will get new plugs, a carb cleaning or rebuild kit, a new fuel pump and filters, new oil and filters. Logan is at about 4800 ft so I will probably put in different jets if they don't already have the right ones for this elevation. I am thinking of doing the K&N filter, high altitude jets, heavier spring in the driven clutch, 200 RPM spring in the drive clutch and the timing advance key. I am considering the machining of the clutches as well. They have to remain driveable at slower speeds. I am also considering changing out the mufflers to something different. The ones they have are rusty. The worn tires are being replaced. I will mess with the governor after the work is done and the rev limiter will stay on. Am I missing anything? How much is taken off the clutches when machining them and where? What size jets would you start with for altitude at 4800? Is there a better muffler that is not to loud that will perform better? Thanks in advance. |
