What’s the difference in a 96 and older driven clutch compared to a 97 and newer clutch??? I’m haveing a hard time finding a clutch for a 94 fe290 motor.

Depends on which clutch you're talking about. The drive clutch (front clutch)? Or the driven clutch (rear clutch)?

From 1984-1996, the Kawasaki motors in Club Car golf carts spun counter-clockwise. Starting in 1997, CC switched all their motor rotations to clockwise. But the clutches (both drive and driven) still physically mount the same way to both motor and transmission, respectively.

So if you mean the drive clutch, there's no operational difference. The drive clutches are not directional.

The driven clutches, however, are directional. But the directional orientation can be changed simply by changing out the spring inside them.

I am talking about the drive clutch. (Primary) when looking for a new one for my cart all I can find say 97 and up. That is why I am asking. I have no problem with buying one and switching out the spring in one but I wanted to know if it was physically the same as a 94 clutch.

So yeah, as far as the drive clutch goes, there is no discernible operational difference between the 1988-96 models and the 1997-up models.

Every single part (sheaves, weights, buttons, spring, etc.) are all the same between the two years!
The ONLY difference is mainly just the part number for the complete clutch as a whole,
The 97 however, has an addition to the 95... the red plastic ring (plug) on the face of it that covers the 3 threaded holes!

I also checked the difference between a 93 and a 98 drive clutch... also all the same!

Just thought I'd share that tidbit of info!

Let us know how it works out. Nobody has come back yet to tell us that they put a 1997-up drive clutch on a 1996-older model and it didn't work!
