Default Spring advice

My dad has a 2006 TXT that we recently bought. It has a five inch lift and 23 inch knobby tires. With four adults, it gets really sloppy, sways a lot, and wanders all over the road. I've heard I can add a leaf to the rear springs. Is that a good idea? Do we need heavy duty shocks? Are there other things to do to make it more stable, particularly at speed?

Any thoughts are appreciated,

Joe

I seen where Buggies Unlimited has a heavy duty coil over rear shock . I get all my stuff from them. Might ck them out on line.

Look at this thread too. It will give you some hints on how to check your caster.

Very helpful posting - thanks. My dad has the cart at his house - how exactly do I tell him to check the caster angle? I'm not sure what two points to tell him to measure.

There are two giant C shaped pieces of metal welded to the both ends of the front axle. The large bolts that hold the outer knuckle and wheel bearing assemble passes through this C shaped bracket. If you put a protractor or angle finder in the vertical position with one side up on the top part and one down below on the lower part, it should be leaning rearwards (meaning the top should be leaning towards the driver) somewhere between 2 to 5 degree. If it isn't, or if it is leaning the other way, this could be contributing to your problem.

with a rear seat and 4 adults, you really need hd springs in the rear. if you don't have them now, you soon will because tour springs will be shaped like a W. most of the sponsors at the top of the forum have them. also be sure to check your tire pressures to be sure they are high enough. i run 12# in my 23s. you don't need hd shocks, the really don't affect much on a cart. toe in is also important-about 1/8 to 1/4 should do it. good luck!
