98 4cycle problems
Hey guys i just bought a used cart cheap because there is a motor issue,PTO side has 50 psi and MAG side has 105 psi.I thought maybe a valve stuck or broken spring but everything looks good.I was wondering if there are any known problems with these motors..i'm thinkin the rings are no good but i will have to tearn it down to see more...thxs

Hi 4 stroke did you adjust the valves, if they arn't set right it will cause low compression and won't run right, Link on adjusting below, Good Luck

I adjusted the valves and cart runs good after and the compression went right back up...thxs again

Well this cart was running good till yesturday,it just died right out and won't run at all.I did a compression test and i get 50psi in both cylinders,now could this be a valve,cam or timeing issue?..Or should i look at a top end rebuild..thxs

I was also wondering when setting the valves should you be on compression stroke?..The thread here just says have lobe down then adjust,is the lobe 90* down when adjusting...thxs

The lobe should be down, after adjusting all the valves recheck, and make sure to tighten nuts

Well i rechecked the valves twice and still can't get anymore than 50 psi in both cylinders,i guess this motor needs some new rings...

Are there any know issues with these motors,i am gona take it out of cart today and see what it needs for rebuild.It should just need rings and a good valve cleaning but are there things to look for with the valves...thxs

the valves beat them up into the seats it needs new hardened valves that is a known issue.
