Default 87 ez go dead spot and back fire

Hi everyone new to the forum. See if anyone may have any ideas as to why my kart has really bad dead spot when u try and give it gas. It moves extremely slow and idles really low and then it will just take off. Sometime it won't even move you have to almost drive it down hill to get it going. Just don't get it?? And also every time u get off the pedal it will back fire really bad every time! Any input would e greatly appreciated. Thanks
