Marathon compression
Would like test the compression in my 81 2 cycle. The engine does not currently run, but turns over well. Need to clean fuel delivery system. Can I test it as is? Or does it need to be "more" operational? Also, i have never tested compression. Will an auto zone tester suffice? Any tips?

Re: Marathon compression
An AutoZone tester will work fine. Ground out your spark plug lead and have the throttle wide open to do the test. Crank the engine until the pressure reading stops climbing. This usually only takes a few seconds of cranking. Any reading that is 100lbs, or greater is good!

Re: Marathon compression
if it has good compression, check fuel pump and spark first, if fuel pump is good and is shooting fuel less than 3-6 inches, needs crankseals, if under 100
