Default Fuel gauge power?

Hi guys, congratulations on a great forum, i'm halfway through my g1 project and have found heaps of useful info here.

I need some help to power up my new fuel gauge and sender, ideally I would like it to connect it so that it is only powered when the key is switched both forward and reverse.
So far I have found the reverse buzzer power which will do for one, but I'm struggling to find a switched live for the forward??
I have looked at the coloured wiring diagram posted on here, but it still hasn't helped!
Any thoughts?
Th only other option I can think is to put a switch in, but then I have to remember to turn it off!

A bit cumbersome but you could use 2 small relays controlled from the solenoids.

Why not tap into the 12v for the coil? It has to get power in forward and reverse.

Thanks for the replies, I think the coil has a permanent 12V, but I'll check this weekend.

Coils 12volts get shut off with the key.

No joy, I tested the power to the coil and it seems the coil is only powered when the pedal is pressed, it doesn't go live when the key is turned either way.
Any ideas anyone?

Jeremy,

I ended up installing a fuse block with a kill switch. My guages and lights, as well as hot wire for cart are all switched. I couldn't find a hot on key and gave up.

Gauges work well...helped me find a problem with generator. Note...your fuel gauge will be approximate - it fluctuates with voltage when driving different speeds.

Cart is looking good. Nice logo on front cowl...I did same thing! My roof is Clubcar and seat parts were Ezgo.
