Transporting My G1
Next week I make my annual trek out to Wisconsin to enjoy a week's camping and all things aviation. I'm taking my G1 along.
The trip will be about 850mi each way. I brought it home a distance of 400mi when I got it in March. Then, it was positioned backwards on the trailer. I'd prefer to transport it facing forward because it's easier to drive-on, back-off than vice versa. My trailer is an aluminum 4.5ft wide X 8ft wide. Cart fits fine either way.. First question: If I haul it facing forward should I place some heavier camping gear on floor and seat to move CG forward? Is it necessary? Trailer spare tire is mounted on tongue. Second: If hauled facing forward any chance of back end flipping up? It sure seems awfully heavy but wind can be tricky at highway speeds so I'd likely secure it anyway. Top is already removed and strapped to my roof rack. At any rate I'm going to take a couple test runs tomorrow with it facing forward. Any opinions or experience? Tom |

Re: Transporting My G1
A ratchet strap would keep the body from flipping up so that's of no consequence. I have seen people transport them with the top still on, not a G1 specifically though.

Re: Transporting My G1
Personally I'd load it backwards ratchet straps can fail and if nothing is holding it down the sail of a roof will catch wind and wreck the roof... Ask me how I know

Re: Transporting My G1
He's already taken the roof off. If you haul it backwards the seat and windshield will fly off.
I don't know how placing anything on a floor or seat is going to move your cart forward. Tie a section of rope around the front a arm or whatever for safety. Ratchet strap it forward against the front of the trailer. Strap it side to side. It ain't going anywhere unless the trailer turns over. Check strap tightness each time you stop. If you do that you will be fine. Haul them all the time. |

Re: Transporting My G1
Re-read. CG = Center of gravity? Don't worry about that unless you are pulling with a tiny car. Make sure your safety chains are in place and in good shape.
