I'm surprised no one has hacked the controller and is selling a laptop adapter and software.. very surprised.

The right to hack your own equipment has been the source of a lot of debate lately, in the farming world, its called "right to repair" as companies like John Deere have been holding the farmers hostage for such simple things as diagnosing a plugged fuel filter.

Its gone to congress to get fixed.. haven't checked back in the past year though. No matter, the farmers are hacking their own tractors anyhow with European software and telling Deere to stick it where the sun don't shine.

You own the equipment, you can do whatever you want with it.. Club Car has no authority over something YOU OWN outright.

Whoever brings a DIY programmer to market will make a lot of money.

The controller has to be powered up with the inputs from the cart for the programmer to work, so my guess would be no...You could call a dealer and ask...

It does exist..You can do whatever you want with an Alltrax controller and the free software download and your laptop...

I'm not a farmer. Never purchased farm equipment, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Deere, and others, followed the Micro Soft work around. You can buy a computer, but all that EULA (End User Licensing Agreement) that you agree to is what allows you to run the software that makes it work.

The software is where they're trying to stick people..

If I purchase a book, a physical hard copy book, I don't have the right to copy it and then distribute that text, that would be a violation of copyright laws, but the book is mine, if I want to scribble in it with a crayon, that's my business, if I want to rip out pages, that's my business..

Any EULA that prevents me from altering something I own, is an invalid and unenforceable clause.

One other perspective:
What if I sell the tractor? The guy I'm selling it to didn't agree to squat, he didn't sign anything, he didn't check any boxes or agree to any EULA.

This whole debate is based on nothing but the corporations trying to screw over their customers.. congress will fix it.. some of them are farmers too, and they all own cars and computers.

Can a stock Curtis controller from a 2016 precedent, be swapped into a 2018 club car onward?

I’m assuming the Curtis controller didn’t change at all between these? The controller in my 16 precedent has the speed code 4 already programmed AND has a nice brake regen setting already on there. The 2018 onward goes 15mph and has no regen set. So I figured I put that controller in my precedent. Any issues?

Still wondering if you can take a Curtis controller (with a faster speed code setting) and swap it into a 2018 onward? Will they both swap and function without any hiccups?

If it is the same model it should. If not the connector may fit but the pins could be different.
