RXV moves slow with a grinding sound
I have a 2009 EZGO RXV that only runs slow and with a grinding sound from the rear. It does it forward or reverse. Is it the motor?

Re: RXV moves slow with a grinding sound
Probably a hub. Jack the cart up and see if you can move either wheel around. I'm betting yes

Can you put it in tow mode? If so, does the cart roll freely? No noise? If so, it might be the bearing encoder shutting things down.

Re: RXV moves slow with a grinding sound
Hmm, still doesn't explain the "grinding sound" in my mind. I hate to say this, but if it is a totally blown out hub on a Rxv, it's often not noticed until the posi unit is also destroyed too. The posi will drive the "good" side hub that still works until the posi used-up too. Then braking on loose surfaces is a not so funny joke of one wheel literally spin opposite directions on dirt while braking. They didn't put posi in a Rxv to make it awesome in wash sand (it is), they put it in there so they could use the motor as the brakes. Bean counters wouldn't spend an extra dime on that if it wasn't totally necessary.

Jacked it up and neither wheel moves freely. I almost want to say the noise is coming from the motor area but can't be certain.

Re: RXV moves slow with a grinding sound
Pull the motor brake off, inspect it and spin the rear axle. see if you can pin point the source of the grinding. older rxv motors have a bearing with an encoder located on the motor, could be bad. axle bearings, etc..

Re: RXV moves slow with a grinding sound
Encoder fault pretty much 100%. I don't know why it grinds (sounds a lot like stator is rubbing armature doesn't it) but if it does that and just barely moves, that's what it is. Lord knows I've replaced a ton.
a 'spun' hub will make a whirring noise and cart won't move period. |

You have to replace the motor?

Re: RXV moves slow with a grinding sound
On a Rxv, one spun hub will result in a cart that will still run, for a while. The posi unit will continue to push the cart with the other good wheel, until the posi is spent. If one spun hub on a Rxv goes unchecked, it results in a blown posi to go along with it. $$$$$
