There was no recall on any solenoid, and no recall on any brake. The tiny solenoid was never replaced with another tiny one (under warranty or customer pay jobs). The "lever brake" has not been available for many years now.

I'm just surprised to see them still, especially running (last one was a dead battery special, ran fine after we charged them all up again, but I recommended and replaced the tiny solenoid since I read a ton about them causing brake lockups) We get tons of those 2008 year models. More common than the ones after much less Curtis which is still quite rare.

I typically reprogram half a dozen or so Curtis RXVs per week. I did a group of TXT48s last sunday. The RXV vs TXT is hands down won by the Curtis controller RXV when it comes to performance upgrades done by programming alone.

I don't use the handset for the initial programming, and I will not use a passkey to enable Freedom mode. Much of the time, a passkey has been used, and I have to undo the "damage" it causes. In their infinite wisdom, E-Z-GO put code in the OS to cut back on the current limits for the controller when a passkey is used. While the settings may be unchanged that are visible to the average programming software, at a higher level, 100% is no longer 100% of rating. It is cut back to 60-70% of 100%. I have to disable Freedom mode, make the changes, then re-enable Freedom mode. A few tweaks and it's ready to go, with the plus that an OEM or dealer level handset can now be used to dial it up or down as desired. It can be as wild or mild as the customer wants, as long as they don't kill their torque with oversized tires. LOL

TXT 48's have become a bit more common but 99% of RXVs that roll in (minus those we get from fleets we buy from--which are often less than 5 years old) are 2008-09 models.

Even with the increasing number of TXT48s, we don't go through many pass keys. If I could get a better handset somehow (EZ and Curtis both say NOPE!) I would definitely prefer that, but right now it's either enable freedom mode or live with angry customers who can't stand going only 14-17MPH.

For those preferring gas, it's getting harder and harder to issue a disclaimer to folks who want us to bypass the governor completely. They'll of course complain the next day how it just stopped running or runs terribly and still can't explain to them why without offending them. "I've been a mechanic since 1962!! I KNOW it can go faster without damage!" is a common response. It's worse for two cycle customers since they refuse to believe a 2 stroke engine can't rev up well beyond its limits.

In 100% stock, fleet form the Danaher have it all over both the TXTs and the Curtis RXVs. HOWEVER, the Curtis controller is amazing when you have someone that can hack the controller - EZGO has really really added TONS of nannies to the OEM programming to make the Curtis controller lawyer friendly. However the Curtis controller should be capable of handling up to 96 volts, and will deliver 235a across three phases which is a hair more than 700 amps!! (And will make a RXV pull a wheelie on pavement!)

While on this subject, I picked up a 2012 (Danaher) RXV for 400 bucks. It had a blown steering rack, shot bushings, one hub is toast, missing the motor brake, missing the burn off controller, controller and bracket, and the charging port was torn apart. I replaced everything sans the controller - and instead of the Danaher controller, I installed a Navitas 600 amp controller. I LOVE the controller - way way way more power than stock programming, and a top speed of between 25 and 29 mph (pending charge) with no other mods.

In retrospect I probably should have converted to a Curtis controller and had our local guru here hack it which likely would have been cheaper and had better performance....

Just some thoughts from someone who has already tinkered with my RXV a lot. :)

Amending this post. The speed was factory set to 25mph courtesy of a Max motor rpm that's pretty conservative. Currently running 30 mph no other changes. Changed accelleration ramps and the cart will do pretty healthy donuts on all surfaces except pavement....lol. (I do not recommend doing donuts as the cart can easily flip.)

The cart is a blast to drive, and while she won't pull a wheelie, initial shock of launching is pretty profound.
