Reversed cables, melted battery terminals
Well this is my first post (here or anywhere else for that matter). I made 2 big mistakes...1) reversed the 36 volt output cables 2) jumped the solenoid. The solenoid contacts fused, and by the time I was able to disconnect, 2 battery terminals had melted. Probably lucky I didn't blow myself up. I feel pretty dumb. So now I want to find out which components I may have damaged, and how to test them. I have a multimeter and am reluctant to say I have some electrical knowledge (chuckle...!) I have already ordered a solenoid, resistor, and solenoid diode. If you guys could point me in the right direction, I would sincerely appreciate it!

Re: Reversed cables, melted battery terminals
Controller is likely going to be destroyed. I bet if you remove the controller and shake it, it will rattle like a maraca.

Re: Reversed cables, melted battery terminals
Thank you cgtech, I did like you suggested ...no rattle. I popped the cover off and can see no visible damage. The plastic case is a little deformed at the bottom due to heat of a cable that was touching it, but nothing else is obviously burned.
If I install a new solenoid and try to power up, do I risk further damage? Or should I try to bench test the controller first? |

Re: Reversed cables, melted battery terminals
If you hook it up correctly, either it will work or it won't. I can't see it damaging other stuff on the cart.

Re: Reversed cables, melted battery terminals
Thank you cgtech for taking the time to help a neophyte. I will take your good advice again and hook it up after I get my new solenoid . I found a good diagram posted by JohnnieB as well as his diode test diagram. (his test shows the diodes to be ok) Thanks again! Ill let you know how it turns out.
