1994 Medalist Brake Issue
Hey all,
New here and had a question as it relates to brakes. My brakes are not the best-I need to nearly push the pedal to the floor to get the cart to stop. Any sudden need to stop would result in a bad situation. I was told to clean them well, and replace the shoes and the problem should be fixed. Well, that was todays job, and the same results. I am thinking of replacing the drums, but unsure if their is something else I should look at first. The drums just barely fit on over the shoes. I am *assuming* they are still good being their is virtually no room between the shoe material and the drum housing. Then again I am no brake expert..... Thoughts? Frank |

Re: 1994 Medalist Brake Issue
Brakes are miss adjusted. Don't feel bad though, 95 percent of the golf cart shops here adjust the brakes wrong. For some reason many find ezgo brakes hard to adjust and mostly because of the "helper spring". If you tightened the hell out of the cable to where there is little to no threads left, that's part of your problem.

I agree with GCG that they’re not tight enough. I’ve removed the spring altogether on several ezgos and replaced it with a straight metal bar with a threaded adjuster in the middle. It makes the brakes feel great!

Re: 1994 Medalist Brake Issue
Thanks GCG and Luke. I wanted to make sure before dropping $100 on new drums.
Is their a thread or link/video that covers proper adjusting of these brakes? I want to get it right the first time. Cheers, Frank |

Re: 1994 Medalist Brake Issue
Thanks all for the feedback and links to great info.
Well, it was simple. I adjusted the 'star' wheel into the drum housing, and brakes stop on a dime. Pretty straightforward, glad i didnt dish out $$ for new drums. Cheers, Frank |
