96 PDS motor replacement?
Trying to help a family member replace his motor. Both armature studs are loose, while the wire connections are tight. First ?, can it be fixed? Second ?, if it can’t and needs to be replaced, does anyone have a good part number for that motor? (OEM?, Aftermarket?.....) T. I. A.

Re: 96 PDS motor replacement?
First of all, 96 and PDS don't go together. EZGO didn't introduce the PDS drive until 2000, so it is likely to be a DCS drive which was introduced in 1995 and ended in 1999.
The A1/A2 studs are part of the brush set. Replace the brushes and solve the loose stud problem at the same time. Here is a parts manual that includes a 1996 DCS. Also attached is a service manual that includes a DCS drive. It's for a 1999, but the 1995 was essentially the same. |

Re: 96 PDS motor replacement?
Is the motor working? If so are the studs damaged? If no you might be able to save what you have. Learned this trick on a motorcycle forum the other day. Not sure what size those studs are but I think 5/16. Hold the bottom nut and see if you can loosen the top one and remove it. Now thread on a rod coupler as far as you can without hitting the other nut. Now thread a bolt in the other side of the coupler until it hits the stud. Now while holding the coupler see if you can gently tighten the bottom nut against the motor can. Not too tight as they are brass. If so, now still holding the coupler back the bolt out, thread off the coupler and see if you can put the cable back on while holding the bottom nut.

Re: 96 PDS motor replacement?
Body must have been swapped for a newer one. Good to know about the years though, thanks. AAAAnd those pdf’s! (If I can get them to download. Says they’re corrupted).
He’s got the motor off, and when I lay hands on it in a couple days we’ll get a better look if one or both of those ideas work. Thanks again guys! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: 96 PDS motor replacement?
Hey JohnnieB, did you mean that the new brushes will come already mounted to the studs? That would be awesome!
