Another charger ?
I know, it seems like every other day I'm asking about chargers, sorry. I found a charger on Amazon that's capable of charging 12v/24v/36v or 48v. It will charge a 48 volt pack at either 15 amps or 7 amps and it has a float mode. The charger isn't cheap, but I like the idea of being able to charge a 36 volt pack now and a 48 volt pack down the road. It comes with a 1 year warranty, but for an extra $8, amazon will extend that another 5 years. Let me know what you guys think.

Re: Another charger ?
At one time I bought the cheaper Stanley charger. It worked well enough until I crossed shorted the sensor wire to the main positive when something hit the cable and went through the insulation. So that was my fault. But it did OK, aside from forgetting if you had FLA, AGM or GEL every time you unplugged it.
This charger looks better than the Stanley and none of the reviews indicated the forgetfulness of the charger. Tripp Lite is a better company too. $200 is pretty cheap for a golf cart charger, but it says it'll do 15 amps so it should be enough to boil the batteries (stir the electrolyte). Most people here are adamant that a Golf Cart use a real Golf Cart Charger. I understand that as there have been many $75 and $100 chargers that claim to work but aren't up to snuff. You will have to lift the seat and connect the cables each time you want to charge. Unless you buy the correct charger insulator (or whatever the name is of the part you plug into the cart) and splice it on. My opinion is likely contrary to theirs, but I'm not an electrical engineer like some of the people on the forum... Now if someone knows of a Yewy, DPI, QuiQ charger or other brand golf cart charger that'd do both 36v and 48v it would be interesting to compare. |

Re: Another charger ?
Looking at the charging voltages I'm not sure it would fully charge your batteries going off the Trojan baseline. I'm not sure what effect that would have on the life of your batteries, if any.
Charger voltages: Average Charging Voltage (Vblk) (36v) 42.6V (48v) 56.5V Floating Charging Voltage (Vflt) (36v) 39.9V (48v) 53.2V Trojan Voltages: Bulk Charge (36v) 44.5 (48v) 59.3 Float Charge (36v) 40.5 (48v) 54 |

Re: Another charger ?
Those charging numbers are pretty close. I was all set to buy the Yewy until I saw this one. They're not to far apart in price. The Yewy will run me around $280 with shipping, but the ability to charge the different voltages is what's got me leaning towards this charger. I'll wait on some more responses to see what other guys think. Either way i need to buy a charger soon. I got my four 12 volt batteries on 4 different battery tenders I had laying around. I just want to keep them ready to go.

Re: Another charger ?
Well, here's my opinion....and remember this is coming from a retired guy who hates to screw around with "watching stuff". I like products that do "all" the work. If it makes my life easier.....that's prolly the product I will buy.
So, I read the Q&A part of the link...and this answer bothered me:The UBC41 will not turn off automatically when fully charged, but it does feature yellow and green LEDs to monitor charge rate, battery capacity and float status. The only time the UBC41 will shut down automatically is upon overheating, and will restart when cooled to the appropriate temperature. To me, that states if you toss this charger on your batteries, and then fall asleep until the next morning, it may very well be possible that you have just cooked your FLA's via boiling. Remember....the charger stops if the CHARGER overheats.....not the batteries. So, at $295 for a quality DPI, or $260 for a Yewy....both of which do the complete job without needing "watched"......and this unit is $210....for my money I'm not buying this UBC41. I'm not going to take the chance of forgetting to turn it off, or rely on a timer to work properly...if that is a route to go. I'm not trying to be Nancy Negative here, and I know the UBC41 will go from 36v to 48v, but it just doesn't do what I want a FLA cart charger to do. Dave |

As far as the charger goes, IMHO, I’d try and find a used 36v charger for now, then get a yewey when you go 48. I’m all the way out in ca, but used chargers are available in my area and seem to hold their value. Buy a used 36v now and sell it for about the same when you’re done with it. Have you tried CL? All this reminds me that I need to post my powerwise 36v. Too bad we’re 3k miles apart, I’d hook you up. |

Re: Another charger ?
Hey guys, any of the site sponsors run Black Friday deals? If I can get a deal on the Yewy charger, I’ll wait.
