TXT Axle Bearing Race Removal
Anyone have any tips on removing the race of a bad bearing. The only thing left of the bearing is the outer race. I have to get it out to get to the inner snap ring and seal. I don't want to mess up the axle tube. Any advice?

Re: TXT Axle Bearing Race Removal
I use a seal puller. It's made by Snap-on very good quality. Have used it a few times. I will post a picture of it when I get home. I use two of them. One end has a hook and the other end I'd bent where you can use a regular hammer to tap on the tool to pull the leftover bearing shell. The other tool is just a leverage type seal puller. I have not found a good slide hammer that lasts. Everyone I get just falls apart after first use. Even the high dollar name brand ones. Good luck

This the picture I said would post. Hammer is referenced to part of seal puller you tap.

There is one on ebay missing the screw in handle: $39 with $5 shipping. On a brand new one from snapon with the side handle for $59.25. I just google the part number

Re: TXT Axle Bearing Race Removal
We made a slide hammer with a hook to pull the race, then on the other end I welded an axle nut. It pulls the race on one end and the axle on the other end.
Works great |

Re: TXT Axle Bearing Race Removal
This pulls the axle? I've never had a stuck axle. I would like to see a picture. Just replaced a wheel bearing last week. Usually that's how I know there is a bad bearing. The axle comes out of the way.
By the way: the tool I posted about earlier is really a cotter pin remover. But works great for me to remove the bearing race/shell. Please post picture of your slide hammer tool... Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

Re: TXT Axle Bearing Race Removal
Mine is the race inside the axle tube. The bearings came apart and the axle slid out like the picture above. I'm already in the house from the shop tonight, but I'll post a pic tomorrow afternoon. I'm suppose to get a tool from a buddy that should get out tomorrow. Maybe!
