Rust protection under batteries
ok, I've got all my stuff on the way to convert from 36v to 48v and I'm picking up batteries tomorrow.
This is my first cart (2001 early TXT), and the underside looks fine, but a little rusty under the batteries. What's the best way to protect this wheile the compartment will be empty? Standard wire brush, rust inhibitor spray, and then paint? |

Re: Rust protection under batteries
Yep, clean, clean, clean. Neutralize with baking soda, rinse. And use high quality spray paint, not the Walmart $1 cans. Nothing you can do to 100% protect it, and the epoxy type stuff is pretty expensive.

Re: Rust protection under batteries
Take a look at local paint stores for a product called Zero Rust. It comes in spray cans, quart and gallon sizes. It's formulated for use over existing rusted metals, it claims to stop the rusting process, and protect against future rust.
I have not personally used this product, but I have heard a lot of great things about it from my local reps. Another product you can look at is called Rust Destroyer, it's a red primer that stops existing rust. I have used this product and found that it does work pretty well. Obviously you will need to properly prep the metal before painting it. With either product you will just need to make sure the metal is cleaned really well. Maybe even a light sand prior to painting it. |
