Yes, I know several people who have done it. You can do it yourself but you will have to remove the motor to install the new bearing encoder.

There are youtube videos about this. Pre curtis RXVs, 2008-11.5 have bearing encoder inside the motor. Have to remove motor and take it apart to get to it. Curtis RXVs have a much simpler procedure. Don't have to remove the motor.

A guess: lazy shop might find just replacing the motor much easier and faster.

I had the same problem with my 2009 RXV... 'Brake locking up intermittently" till I discovered the problem was the electric plug which plugs into the brake was not making contact now and again...couple of times on the course cart.. would not go...lifted the seat.. reached underneath to where the plug was..pressed on it...all OK

Just finished installing encoder bearing. Works just like new. Simple repair job took less than an hour to complete. Hardest part was running motor wires back to controller. Owner of two ezgo rxv for now.
