Default 1995 EZ Go TXT - Is the motor bad

I have a 1995 TX with what a shunt motor. I can turn on the switch, select forward and hear a faint hum in the motor once the accelerator is depressed. Any thoughts on my next step for troubleshooting?

Yeah, remove the motor & open it up to look at the brushes & stuff. Also, if it's real bad, you will smell it, and it's not a nice smell (you will promptly be taking it outside to get the smell outta your garage).

Thanks, I will check it out. I also checked the resistance. I have 0.3 ohm between S1 and S2 and about 1.3 ohm between A1 and A2.

If it is a stock DCS motor, S1 to S2 should be 1.0Ω to 2.0Ω rather than 0.3Ω and A1 to A2 should be 0.2Ω to 1.0Ω rather than 1.3Ω.

FWIW: S1 to A1 should be OPEN and S1 to case should be greater than 5,000,000Ω.

Yes, I had the resistance switched. S1 to S2 was 1.3 and A1 to A2 was 0.3. Bad to go by memory.

I pulled the motor this morning. Cleaned it up with a soft brush. All looked good. I did not take the brushes out but looked to be plenty left and felt like they were making good contact. I reinstalled the motor, jacked up the back and applied 12V. Motor worked fine. I reconnected everything back. Motor worked intermittently (cart still jacked up). I lowered the cart and nothing. Could the controller be bad?

When the cart was jacked up. I also checked forward and reverse. The wheels turn the same direction regardless of forward or reverse selection.

The stock DCS controller (Curtis 1206SX) has some design faults and it sounds like your DCS controller might have bit the dust.

If so, replace it with an Alltrax XCT48400-DCS or larger.

---------------
What is the voltage between S1 and S2 start at and increase to as pedal is slowly pushed to floor?
Does the polarity of that voltage change when you change direction selected on F/R switch?

What is the voltage between A1 and A2 when pedal is slowly pushed to floor? (It should start at about 0V and smoothly increase to battery pack voltage.)

Polarity did not reverse between S1 and S2 when switching from Fwd to Rev. Voltage between S1 and S2 was less than 1V. Voltage only went from 0 to 8V on A1- A2 as I depressed the accelerator.

Bad controller. Time to upgrade to an XCT.
