98 G16E Yamaha no power past solenoid
Hi, I have a Yamaha G16E. It went dead a while back. I’ve replaced the solenoid, and controller. I’ve bypassed the pedal switch and the key switch. No click on solenoid. If I jump the solenoid everything works fine. Help!! Thanks!

Have you checked all the microswitches on the forward and reverse switch? Bypassing the pedal microswitch is not a good idea long-term. Just test the switches with a multimeter.

Re: 98 G16E Yamaha no power past solenoid
Well, G16e used magnetic microswitches, and they are comparable to ezgo reed-switches(both widely known for failure) , prone to failure from overload. Have you tested them for real-world operation? ( Not "ohm test"?) Also, considered modernize them? G-16 is the worst F&R Yamaha ever made. Of all series type Yamaha carts, the F&r switch on that model is widely known as their worst. Do not use a new OEM one, do better. Look it up. I'm not just poking fun, look for yourself to see

Re: 98 G16E Yamaha no power past solenoid
I’m not really sure how to check the F&R switch. Should I check for continuity?
Does the F&R switch control the solenoid? |

The switch on the F&r with 2 yellow wires does.

Re: 98 G16E Yamaha no power past solenoid
What should I check or what should I do to verify that the switch is the problem. Thanks!

Re: 98 G16E Yamaha no power past solenoid
Ohm test the 2 yellow wires going to the F&r, with it unplugged from cart harness. It should read 0 ohms when in F or R position, and "open circuit" when between those positions. Then you can probe while plugged in for voltage, results will be voltage on both wires when in F or R, voltage on one wire only when in-between.

Re: 98 G16E Yamaha no power past solenoid
Ok I finally got a new F&R switch, after being sent the wrong part twice.
Unfortunately still getting the same results, but if you jump the solenoid Everything works fine. I’m stumped. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

Re: 98 G16E Yamaha no power past solenoid
See attached schematic. Follow B+ from the battery through the fuse at location 7, then through the diode at location 5, to the key switch at location 6, then from the key switch on the brown wire to the pedal switch at location 3 and out of the pedal switch on the R/W wire to the solenoid coil.
B- attaches directly to the other side of the solenoid coil. Look for an open circuit in the B+ or B- path to the solenoid coil. The fuse must be good or the cart would not run when you bypass the solenoid. You might have a problem with the diode or connector at location 5. |
