Default Briggs/Daihatsu turbo diesel pics

Just took a gander at this scag mower with a 3cyl. Turbo diesel. I've heard that they are unreliable and some people have had no problem at all....I was just interested in the tiny turbo attatched to it!

I wonder what size it is? I woulld be leery of anything besides a Kubota or Yanmar though. I have 2 yanmar 600cc 2 cylinder engines sitting in my shop. I thought about throwing one in my pioneer but the engine I have runs just fine and they are a bit tall to try to fit one in there. They sell a small turbo on ebay I thought would go just right on it. Its cheap chinese crap probably but if it lasted 200 hours I would be happy.

With the turbos, if you increase cylinder pressures you'll likely cause other engine damage, from head gasket/head damage, pushrods, even rods. The diesels are more durable than a standard gasoline engine, but if they aren't designed for the turbo it won't last. The turbo will likely last longer than the engine.

Now if you use a "turbo" engine....well that's a different story....

It does not seem that to many people have problems with the thousands of Daihatsu gas engines in yard equipment. And there are plenty of build threads on this forum of people swapping Mitsubishi and Daihatsu twins into their carts.

I was thinking the same thing...they all have their issues but some just stink more than others.
