Default RXV differential fluid Why Mobilfluid 424

An academic question. The manual says use Mobil 424 or presumably an equivalent, which seems a very specific requirement. It is particularly well suited for reducing wet brake chatter which implies that it has limited slip capability. It is also suited to applications requiring APIGL-4 specs for SAE80W lubricants in all gear applications except hypoid gear designs. So why not any SAE 80W oil of the required spec. as the RXV does not need limited slip or does it ??

Electric RXVs (all) have limited slip.

Tks. I suppose I shud have looked back at previous posts. One in 2012 explained that it has a spider with friction plates which would require limited slip oil or a gear oil with a slip additive.

That’s actually the whole reason I bought an RXV!
Claws it’s way up hills and through what you point it at!

Get that "tractor fluid" out of there. Ezgo specified several different fluids over the years in rxv; and that was the first/worst of them . Use regular GL5 & 2oz of friction modifier. Trust me, I seen em all, from the earliest rxv to today. 27oz total fill. (Yes I know that amount won't fit in from the plug hole).

I filled mine through the rear axle tube. Wasn't too hard.

Every RXV Electric had limited slip from the factory. No RXV gas had it from the factory.

The manual says to pull the axle out and run a tube up to the diff past the seal and pump it in that way....
