Chance to buy cheap, is it worth it?
I can get a 1976 model d with a trailer for $800cdn. Any idea what a motor rebuild and new clutches would be worth? Are parts readily available for these units?

Unless you are really intent on having a Harley cart I would pass on getting one. Parts like clutches and crank pins and crank bearings are very expensive or just made of unobtainium. Secondly the top ends need to be done on a fairly regular basis if you use the cart a lot. So if you mechanical and do it yourself that one thing it is quite another if you have to have the work done by someone else. Just my 02 cents worth and I have been involved with one since 2008 and bought it in 2016 so I am not some arm chair/bar stool advisor.

Re: Chance to buy cheap, is it worth it?
To be frank, I would pass. I have 10 vintage carts at my camp. Invariably, I have at least one person a year, sometimes a couple, approach me and offer sell me their non-running HD cart for a good price. I normally tell them they will have to pay me to take it off their hands.
BTW: If your perspective cart was running I would say buy it for sure. But you are looking at $300-$400 for a top end kit (motor rebuild). If a clutch is bad? $300 or so for the primary and $200 or so for the secondary IF you can find them. That said, they are probably to coolest looking carts ever made so there's that. If you happen to get more info, ie; what the cart REALLY needs it might be helpful. |

Thanks. Good enough for me. Ill pass on it then. I can do the work but if parts are scarce then not much point.
