You can take a 2-wheel-drive cart in the sand no problem, just keep a few things in mind.

1. Sand likes to rob horsepower, which can get you OUT of trouble in the sand.

2. The right tires will make a big difference. If you plan on only running in deep sand, look in to a set of paddles for the rear and razorbacks for the front. The single rib design of the front tires allow better steering, while the paddles in the rear offer ultimate traction in deep sand.

3. You should always be prepared to get out of being stuck. Carrying a small collapsable shovel, a portable jack, or even a good sized winch can help ensure you make it back to camp in a timely manner (compared to the time it takes without them).

I have seen plenty of golf carts in the dunes of California, Oregon, and Nevada. The lifted big block carts with the right tires are fairly capable in the dunes. Hope some of this helps!

Srk make him a deal if it gets stuck you get your money back.
Can't tell you how often I've heard I "can do it cheaper" and they can't.
